It might sound like a funny question but please take a moment to consider… There is no one thing that affects your financial future more than this.
Our Financial Genetics
We all learned about money somewhere… For most of us, that somewhere was our home when we were kids. We learned from our parents.
I grew up in a home that didn’t have a whole lot. It was by no means a rough childhood but I often heard my parents talk about not having any money or saying things like “we don’t need those nice things” or “what do you think I am, made of money?“.
At first glance these statements probably seem harmless but don’t be fooled. Nothing could have a greater impact on your financial well-being.
The unfortunate truth is that many people learn to resent the rich. Statements like “the rich are greedy” or “we don’t have much money, but at least we’re honest” have conditioned many people to have an inner belief that money is the root of evil.
If you see money as the root of evil, how can you have any significant amount of it? No matter how much you consciously say you want money, it’s impossible…. Even if you win $5,000,000 in the lottery, you’ll find a way to squander it. (and most lotto winners do)
How Do I know If I’m Repelling Money
Maxwell Multz put it best. “A person cannot consistantly live outside of their self image.”
If we resent the rich, we cannot be rich. Period.
So a quick an easy question is to ask yourself is “do I want to be rich?”
If you’re answer is anything that than a quick “yes”, chances are, there are a few negative connotations within money bouncing around in your head.
When you see someone driving a Ferrari down the street do you say “what a waste of money, that could have been used to buy food for the homeless” or do you say “what an amazing automobile, I bet that really is an experience to drive”?
Money Makes Us More of What We Are
If you’re a good person, money will allow you to do more good. Many say things like, “I just want enough to pay our bills” but this doesn’t allow for helping and bettering the lives of others (or yourself).
I have a vision of paying off the mortgages of my brothers and sisters and buying my mother a house. These are things I must be rich to do.
Concluding Thoughts
You deserve to do the best you can possibly be and to do the things that make you happy!
I realize this might be a bit of a uncomfortable topic since many people do not want to admit that they want to be rich…. but who can honestly say they don’t want to give a better life to their family and have the time freedom to learn and better themselves?
Who can honestly say that they don’t want the extra money needed to quit a job they don’t like so they can spend more time with their families?
I sincerely hope this empowers you to live the life of their dreams.
If you’d like to change your outcomes, start celebrating the rich and realize that you can have nice things and also do good things with money.
You can give to charity and make a difference. Avoid negative thoughts about money and NEVER say “I can’t afford it” or “we don’t have any money”.
You’ll get more of what you focus one so those statements won’t do you any good. A good alternative is to say, “how can I afford it?” or “how can I improve my financial situation?“.
